![]() ![]() The latter’s overall gestalt sounds a shade more easeful and tonally richer. Thing is, I like Audirvana+ a little bit more. ![]() On an 11” Macbook Air running OS X El Capitan, I like the sound of Roon quite a bit. Catch up on those thoughts here.įor music playback software, choice matters. As previously argued on these pages, playback software should be seen as as a component like any other. The very same PC running Windows 10, optimised by Microsoft for the user experience and NOT digital audio sound quality, is unlikely to sound as good as a Linux distribution that has.Īudible differences can be also be heard at the application level. The audible differences between network streamers and/or servers don’t only fall to their hardware configurations but also the software installed. String several better sounding digital audio products together, each one adding single digit performance, and they sum to a larger, much better sounding whole. I know this because of many years of listening experience – and not just the theory that informs product engineers’ intent to lower jitter and electrical noise.ĭACs, streamers, USB cables, S/PDIF cables – even Ethernet cables – they all make a contribution to how smooth/rough, uptight/relaxed, easeful or not is the audible result. Remember the V-word - we’ll be coming back to it.Īural satisfaction doesn’t fall entirely to the D/A converter but also to what we feed it – streamer/server – and how – digital cables. In other words, music sounds better rested. With decent hardware, music seems to flow more easily. This can lend The Blue Nile’s “Stay” a little too much stridency or make Prefab Sprout’s “Cars and Girls” sound a tad thin or cause us to soon tire of Merck’s intense IDM mixes.Īn AudioQuest DragonFly Black hooked into a basic Mac or PC cannot hope to sound as effortlessly easeful as a high-end streamer pushing ones and zeroes into an Aqua La Scala MKII.īetter setups sound as they have spent time by the pool, sipping cocktails, enjoying the occasional massage and soaking up the sun. There can be a hardness in the treble or a rigidity with micro-dynamics reflexiveness. Poor sounding rigs sound nervous and tense. When we feel as good as this, life seems to come more easily.ĭigital audio isn’t all that different. However – wherever – we choose to unwind, we to hope to return to our daily lives feeling rested still ourselves but looser of joint, with less tension in the shoulders, more relaxed. We might take a week by the pool in Thailand or two weeks hiking in Switzerland. The aim? To rid ourselves of the stress and tension of modern life. It’s what many of us dream of after months and months of the nine to five. I should say that I don't use it myself, but that is because I use Linn players which are OpenHome devices in themselves.A holiday in the sun. ![]() The disadvantage is that you are adding another layer of software into the system, but there are plenty of reports on this forum and elsewhere that BubbleUPnP Server works well. Note that BubbleUPnP Server, despite its name, is not a server as such you would continue to use MinimServer, and the Control Point would display the MinimServer Browse List, which is what you want. You can use BubbleUPnP Server to 'bridge the gap' among other capabilities, it in effect adds OpenHome compatibility and features to UPnP renderers. But both of these are designed to work with OpenHome renderers, and I assume that the renderer(s)/player(s) you are using are UPnP only. Again in my view, Linn Kazoo is the best app on Windows, though some prefer the earlier Kinsky. The first point is that the Bubble apps are the best I have used, and in my view there isn't a Control Point app to match them on Windows. Best means, the controller shows the same detailed sortings and filtering as configured in MinimServer and is as user friendly as my bubble app or near by (05-06-2015 09:37)Oroperplex Wrote: What is the best Contoller Software working with Minim Server on the PC and ASIO Output. ![]()
